Covid-19: New Deaths Reported, Infection Rate Up In CT; Latest Breakdown Of Cases By County

More than three dozen new COVID-19 fatalities were reported in the past week in Connecticut as the number of newly reported daily infections rose slightly.

In the past week, Connecticut hospitals recorded 40 new virus-related deaths, bringing the total up to 8,707 statewide as of Thursday, Oct. 14, as the infection rate is back on the rise.

The daily positive COVID-19 infection rate of those tested in Connecticut has been fluctuating in the past week, from under 2 percent for several days before hitting 2.23 percent of those tested on Wednesday, Oct. 13.

On Oct. 13, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said that there were more than 40,000 COVID-19 tests administered statewide, resulting in 908 new laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus.

One more COVID-19 patient was discharged from Connecticut hospitals, bringing the total being treated down to 244.

Of those hospitalized, approximately 75 percent are unvaccinated.

Connecticut continues to be among the quickest in administering the COVID-19 vaccine, with 2,567,064 residents receiving at least one shot, while 2,374,148 have completed the vaccination process.

A breakdown of which populations have received the most vaccines, by age group on Oct. 14:

  • 65+: >95 percent
  • 55-64: 90 percent;
  • 45-54: 82 percent;
  • 35-44: 82 percent;
  • 25-34: 75 percent;
  • 18-24: 70 percent;
  • 16-17: 79 percent;
  • 12-15: 69 percent.

The latest breakdown of confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Connecticut, by county, according to the state Department of Health on Oct. 14:

  • Fairfield: 111,386 (11,808 per 100,000 residents);
  • New Haven: 104,002 (12,167);
  • Hartford: 96,666 (10,840);
  • New London: 26,883 (10,137);
  • Litchfield: 16,767 (9,298);
  • Middlesex: 14,684 (9,040);
  • Windham: 12,900 (11,046);
  • Tolland: 11,094 (7,361).
